8 Months and General Conference! October 7, 2019

Hello everyone!! I hope you all had such a wonderful weekend watching general conference and being able to hear from our Heavenly Father through the living prophet! What a blessing we have to have a living prophet! This past week was pretty good here in Texas as well! For some reason I didn't feel as much on a "high" as I have felt my whole mission, but I was also sick this past week so I keep telling myself that once I heal physically I will heal mentally and spiritually haha, but general conference sure did help lift up my spirits again and I am so very grateful for all of the amazing words and guidance we were given!
How cool was conference though? What are everyones thoughts about the changes regarding young womens and young mens?? It is still a little crazy to me that there is no more Laurels or Miamaids or Beehives, but I know for sure that this is so inspired!! I also LOVE the updated young womens theme, so awesome!!

We had a pretty busy week, like usual, so here were some of the highlights! We were able to meet with Lori a couple times this past week and we talked about going to the temple! She is so super excited to be able to enter the temple again, since she hasn't been able to since she was a teenager! She is on track for the temple and so we just have to wait for when it opens back up again at the end of the month!

I was able to go on an exchange with one of my sister training leaders, Sister Porter, and she is so awesome!! We have a lot in common, and we know so many of the same people! Her cousin was someone I played on the same soccer team with, and she went to highschool with a lot of other people I have played soccer with and become really good friends with! It is crazy how soccer has helped me make a lot of great connections on my mission! Our exchange was so fun and she was able to meet Lori and that visit was for sure interesting, but she still loves Lori, as does everyone that meets her! We had our english class over exchanges as well and it went so well! We had our friend Inocencio come and he brought his son Alan, and after the class we were able to talk about some of our beliefs and we talked a lot about the Godhead, which was awesome as well! They are going to stay after english class next week and we are going to start teaching all of our class students the gospel lessons and we are so excited for that!

I woke up on Thursday morning with the worst congested nose and headache and it hasn't really gone away since haha so that has been rough, but it's all good! I still have enough energy to do the things we need to, so I am counting my blessings!

We were able to meet with Hannah again, as well as her husband William was able to join us for the first time and it was cool because he is currently going to seminary, and wants to either become a professor for world religion, or write a book about all of the religions! They ask a TON of hard questions, but super relevant ones too like, "Why was the Restoration necessary?" and we answer them to the best of our capability, and I say that because they have many different beliefs and don't really agree that there was any "great apostasy" in the first place.. We have really been pushing and asking Hannah to pray about the Book of Mormon and she finally did, so when we asked her about it during our visit she said, "Every time I pray about it I feel like God is telling me I need to keep visiting with you two." Awesome right? Well, here is what followed that sentence. "I don't think the Book of Mormon is true, and I think God wants me to keep meeting with you so I can share MY gospel with you both, so you can be saved." She then went on to say, "I know this might sound harsh, but I want to help save you from fire and brimstone." Then she talked about whether "we are right, or she is right" haha so.. She did end with telling us that she loves us and she just wants to help us, so that was interesting for sure haha.
We were able to watch conference with her though!

On Saturday I hit 8 months of my mission and wow has it been quite the journey! I have had 4 companions and 2 areas so far, and have loved (pretty much) every second! I was able to spend my 8 month mark the best way ever and that was by listening to the words of our amazing prophet and apostles! We were able to watch the first session of general conference with Lori and her family, and then the second session with Hannah. We also watched the Womens session at the stake center and then went to Menchies Frozen Yogurt after with our "Texas Mom" Sister Brady!
Sunday we were able to watch the first session with Ryan and his wife (who is a member) and it was so perfect because the first three talks of that session were all stuff that we have been talking about with him recently! I love how inspired everything in our church is! We watched the last session of conference with the Schafer family and then ate dinner with them! I love all of the families and friends I have been able to meet in this area, it has treated me so well and I am excited to make the most of all the time I have left here!

We were able to have another visit with Gomathi last night and she is still on date and pushing forward to be baptized on October 26th :) She is super excited and we love watching the peace that comes into peoples lives from making commitments and keeping them! We are also excited because next week we hope to have someone call into our visit who speaks her language so she can for sure understand everything we have been talking with her about :)

I want to just highlight one talk that really stood out to me this weekend! It was from President Ballard, and something that really hit me was when he mentioned that we have no clue how much longer we will know someone, so never pass up an opportunity to tell someone how much you love them and care for them! I hope that everyone felt the spirit as much as I did when he said that because it is so true! Don't miss what you have right in front of you because it could be gone before you realize it! I hope everyone enjoyed conference so much :)

I want to wish my best MTC companion Happy Birthday on the 12th and I hope she has the best day ever!  I love you Hermana Morgan, you're amazing and I am so grateful to have had you as my first companion!  :)

I just want to add one more thing.. It's the most wonderful person's birthday this week... MY MOM!! Her birthday is Sunday the 13th, so PLEASE, if everyone could tell her how amazing she is and how much she means to you, that would mean a lot to ME because I won't be able to be there with her for her birthday, so help me in making it as special as possible! Mom, I love you so much and I miss you so much, and I am so incredibly grateful for all you have done for me and given me! There is no way I would have made it as far as I have come in life without you, you are amazing and the most wonderful mom I could have asked for!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I hope you all have the best week! Thanks again for all of your love and prayers, it means the world!

Love, Hermana Griffin :)
