Last week was a pretty awesome week though! We started it with having another visit with Gomathi and we just went on a walk with her and talked to her more about the gospel! We have been trying to help her with the word of wisdom and get her to exercise more and so we went walking with her and it was the first time I have done that with someone we are teaching but it was awesome!
We also had a couple visits with Lori and one of them was quite sad because her family in Utah isnt doing too good.. then the next visit we were able to set up her family search account so that she can do family history and she is excited about that! We did find out that she might be headed back to Utah for a while to help her family in their situation, so that was sad because we wont be able to visit with her or help get her to the temple :( we just hope and pray that she makes the right decision and stays strong in the gospel and the covenants she has made no matter where she ends up!
We also stopped by a referral this past week and he wasnt too happy with it.. apparently his Lyft driver referred him, even after he had told her no, and then we had stopped by a couple times and he hadn't been home, but we were finally able to contact him and he pretty much told us he wanted nothing to do with our church, so that was fun haha.
We ate dinner with one of my favorite people ever and after dinner we had asked her if we could do anything for us, and she actually accepted our offer (which nobody does) and she asked us to finish making her kids halloween costumes, so we did! I think that is my new career choice ;)
We had district council this past week and no joke, our district leader is the sweetest guy haha like he always brings us gatorade pretty much every district council and a treat or whatever he can, but this past week he gave both my companion and I notes, and it was a little awkward haha but he pretty much just thanked us for our trainings we gave, it is just weird to still be "passing notes" as a missionary, ya know?? hahah
We did have some extra time a few days this past week, so my trainee finally got to know what tracting is like, and it wasn't super successful, but one of the times we did knock on someones door and they let us right in! Come to find out, they have a brother that is a member, and so they knew quite a bit about the church! They had just moved to Texas about four months ago and they have the best southern accents ever! They were seriously so kind, and offered to have us over for dinner sometime! We were very happy to end that night with a good experience of knocking doors :)
We had our last lesson with Hannah this past week.. It was going just how every other lesson has gone, and we kept coming back to the same points and pretty much she just told us that she is never going to believe what we believe, and we keep coming back to the same stuff (which are the basic beliefs of our church) but we all came to the conclusion that we should discontinue our visits, because she was meeting with us to try and convert us to her church but she finally realized we weren't going to do that, haha so it was sad to say our goodbyes, but it was for the best. We hope and pray she is more ready for the gospel the next time she sees missionaries!
On our way home one of the evenings this past week, we had some extra time so we stopped by a few people and Heavenly Father definitely blessed us because we were able to contact them all! We first stopped by a child of unbaptized record and her name is Riley, and she is so cute!! She is 13 and her dad is a member, and it wasn't a good time that night so we texted her father and he said he would get back to us about a time to visit, so we hope that he actually lets us know when to come back! We then stopped by two people who have recently been taught, the mothers name is Yvette and the daughter is Ryan, and we were able to talk to the father, Aaron who is a member and Ryan, and Ryan wants to be baptized and has wanted to for a while and Aaron was even saying that he knows she needs to be too, so it was awesome! Yvette and Ryan are out of town for a while, so the sisters who will be covering the San Gabriel ward will make sure to contact them and I hope it all goes well for them!
This weekend was so cold! Haha I love that I say that when it's still like 70 degrees and I am sure you are all freezing at home! But it was weird for it to even be a little chilly this past week! One morning we opened our apartment door and we both had to put on jackets cause it was that chilly! It got so cold that we made a run to 7-11 in the middle of our weekly planning session and bought some hot chocolate! We also went and ate lunch at Jardin Del Rey, a mexican restuarant where our english class friend Inocencio works, and he gave us free desserts! He is so nice and I really hope that he continues learning about the gospel after the english classes!!
We also had an amazing lesson with two kids, aged 10 and 11, who are the kids of two member parents and the parents are finally wanting them to be baptized, so it was awesome! Their names are Jared and Analise, and they are the cutest kids! We talked about the gospel of Jesus Christ during that visit and we are hoping to help put the kids on date for baptism soon!! It was super sad on Sunday morning though because we were expecting them to come to church, but then all of a sudden the mother sent us a text saying that the night after our visit, the father out of nowhere, says he wants a divorce.. so we are super sad because obviously we don't like when families seperate, but we also had such a good lesson with the kids and we were able to set up times to meet every other week, and now that might all be cancelled depending what happens with the parents.. It is so hard when bad stuff always happens :(
We had a pretty good turn out at church yesterday! We were able to have Bridget, Edward, Dennis and Gomathi come to church! Last night after dinner we also had a visit with Gomathi and it was super cool because we had somebody named Santosh call in from the Czech Republic, and he talked to her in her language and just made sure that she understands everything that she is committing to, so it was awesome! She is still planning on getting baptized the 26th and I am quite sad because I won't be able to see it, but nonetheless I am so happy for her and the decision she has made in following the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized! She was so cute yesterday at church too because she walked around and asked the two sisters in the ward if they will talk at her baptism, so it was so awesome!
I also went to the doctor this week as a followup on my foot and my hip since they've been bugging me recently, and it was quite interesting and funny! First of all, you don't realize how much weight you gain until you get weighed in at the doctors office. The doctor said my foot was alright and I just need to focus on walking normally, and then she suggested that I get steroid shots then and there for the pain in the bursas of my hip, so that was interesting too. Haha, I told her I was going to wait and talk to my mom before I decided anything about getting a steroid shot and now i'm leaving the area and won't be able to have a shot! haha! Oh well, I'll focus on walking normally now! :)
Well this week everything will be changing for me! I will be leaving the beautiful city of Leander where everybody is american and has the biggest most luxurious houses, and heading to a place where I will be the only american and where some people won't have houses.. This next area that I am going to will certainly humble me and I am a little nervous because I have been warned that there will be a culture shock, but nonetheless I am excited for this next experience and adventure!
I also want to wish a special birthday to some of my favorite people!! First is my awesome uncle Matt Barnes! I hope you have the best birthday ever on Wednesday! I also want you to know that I have met so many missionaries in my mission that know you, so you are quite the popular guy Coach Barnes! Have the best birthday ever!
Second is my bestest friend, Hermana MacKenzie J Spencer! Have the best birthday ever on the 18th Kenz! Thank you for the wonderful best friend and example you've been to me, and keep killing it on your mission in Florida!
Third is my other bestest friend Cooper (Elder Kunz in 2 weeks) on the 20th! I hope you have the best birthday as well and that your farewell talk goes as good as possible!
I love you all so much and hope you have the best birthday ever!
Thank you all for your love and support, as always! I will definitely need some more prayers and love this upcoming week as my whole world changes a bit, so thank you in advance for all of the prayers and love!
Have the best week ever!
Con amor, Hermana Griffin
